Scientific productivity

Michelin founded the research program in 2006 and since then we have sponsored 113 projects and numerous rapid collection studies. Our main research partners are professors and graduate students from the principal Bahian universities (Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA), Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB), Universidade Federal do Sul da Bahia (UFSB), Universidade Estadual de Feira de Santa (UEFS), and Universidade Estadual de Santa Cruz (UESC). Scientists have recorded >2000 species in the reserve, including 20 species new to science. Studies have focused on diverse organisms including: ants, butterflies, moths, bees, wasps, spiders, beetles, termites, fish, amphibians, lizards, snakes, birds, bats, small, medium, and large mammals, fungi, non-vascular plants, orchids, bromeliads, trees, and people. Scientists have published 124 articles based on work done in the reserve.
